At the end of El Mariachi, El was wounded in the hand and his girlfriend had been murdered by a drug dealer. In this next chapter, El is after the man who killed her. Essentially, Desperado is a remake with bigger name actors and more money. Once again, El is mistaken for a notorious gunslinger, when all he wants to do is to be left alone to make music. He teams up with Carolina, who owns a bookshop and reluctantly works part-time for Bucho, the bad guy. She takes care of El after he is badly shot in a bar brawl and they fall in love. For some unknown reason, El has a friend, (Steve Buscemi), who talks up his reputation. There is the usual gang of Rodriguez actors, including the original El, who is now El's buddy. Confused? It really doesn't matter as it's another round of shoot-em-ups, humour, great music and lots of fun.
